Compare Social Media Platform for Your Business

What is the best social media platform for your business?

The best platform is the one that helps you communicate with the people you want to work with. Before you choose a channel, ask three questions: Who buys from us? What do they need to know before they call? How do they prefer to see that information?

A bathroom renovator might use photos and short videos to show the quality of a finished room. A building designer might explain the planning process and share case studies. Both could use social media, but they do not need the same content plan.

The main options

Facebook is useful for local businesses, community conversations, testimonials and service updates. It can reach homeowners in a familiar setting. Its downside is that organic posts may have limited reach beyond your existing audience, so you may need advertising or active community participation.

Instagram suits visual work such as interiors, kitchens, landscaping and renovations. Before and after photos, Stories and short videos can show what a service feels like. It takes a steady supply of good images and video, and a beautiful feed still needs a clear path to enquire.

LinkedIn is strong when you sell to other businesses or rely on relationships with builders, property managers, architects and commercial clients. It is less useful if your only goal is to reach local homeowners looking for an urgent repair.

TikTok can work when someone in your business is comfortable explaining a process or showing work on video. Its discovery can introduce you to new people, but filming regularly takes time, and views may come from outside your service area.

YouTube can hold longer demonstrations, project walkthroughs and answers to common questions. Useful videos have a longer shelf life, though planning and production take more effort.

Google Business Profile is worth considering alongside social channels. Eligible businesses can post updates, offers and events that customers may see on Search and Maps. Keep your core business details and reviews current as well. It reaches people already looking for a business like yours, but it is not a substitute for social conversation.

Choose a channel you can use well

Pick one or two channels first. Match your content to the audience and the questions they ask, then give people a relevant page, call option or enquiry form. Review the quality of the conversations and jobs that follow, not just likes and views.
